Pretty in Pink?

In class last week, there was some debate about whether or not the Princess looked too much like Princess Peach from the Super Mario games. I maintain that I don't care; but to satiate the masses, here are some variations on a theme:

I still like the original pink dress best. Keep in mind that she is part of an ensemble cast, each featuring a different color (Knightly=blue, Sword=purple, Horse=orange, Dragon=red) and the Princess needs to fit in.

What do you think? Which variations are your favorites?

  1. I like the original one you came up with best, and didn't feel there is any issue with it. If you decide to change though, I like the Cinderella 2nd, and maybe the Buttercup 3rd

  2. I hate to add more to the mix, but I know it was suggested that she could be pink with white sleeves. That way you could keep your original idea and "appease the masses." What do you think?

  3. As Jesse said, I do prefer the original. But Bluenette, Pomegranate, and Devilish Red also look good as well! Not digging the Goth Princess, haha.

  4. I chuckled at Cotton Candy. For some reason I think the pink hair just works really well for her. Maybe if you did a "watermelon" variation of her, with a light green dress, that would look good too. I think Pomegranate is nice too, mainly because it's easier on my eyes than hot pink.

Personally, I think there's too much of an issue with her original look. The "princess in pink" thing is such a common trope that it's practically shorthand for a damsel in distress. She may look kind of like Princess Peach, but then again Peach looks like a lot of other princesses who came before her, so I think it's okay if you want to stick with your original design.

  5. I meant "not much of an issue". Woops.

  6. If you take the darker red from the 'red' version and use it in place of the blue in the 'blue and pink' version, that might look nice. She'd still basically be pink, since pink and red are technically the same hue, which would keep that girly vibe you're going for, but she'd look different from that really common 'pink and slightly lighter pink' design.

But the most important thing is to just do whatever you think looks best. It's your film, after all.

  7. Classic, Cotton Candy, Cinderella, Princess Pan, and Pomegranate.

I think the original design is the best, still. The Cinderella one is working well too. I like the cotton candy one but at the same time its almost too ridiculous.

  8. Joe I think the original is solid and helps with the overall color pallet of the other characters.
